Spine Chair or SENSiT as we call it today, came up as a pilot project within the Internet of Things (IoT) lab at Imaginea Design Labs, under Pramati Technologies, Hyderabad. The project originated from common complaints regarding back problems of individuals primarily working in mainstream desk jobs and having to sit for prolonged periods of time on a chair in front of computers.

According to research, sitting over 6 hours a day increases the chances of chronic back ailments by upto 40%.

The project resulted in a smart chair that understands the posture of the user, and alerts them if they sit in an incorrect posture for a long periods of time. The project also acts as resource management within an organization.
